Argentina’s Justice Minister Mariano Cúneo Libarona praised President Javier Milei’s judicial reforms and close alliances with the United States and Israel during an interview at an international conference on combating antisemitism in Jerusalem.
Cúneo Libarona described Argentina’s justice system as now having a “very good” structure following its shift to an accusatorial model, updates to the criminal code, and strengthened federal procedures. He expressed confidence in further improvements ahead.
The minister noted that U.S. actions against Venezuela—resulting in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by American forces—had no direct impact on Argentina’s justice system but highlighted the benefits of such cooperation, including training for prosecutors.
Cúneo Libarona characterized Milei’s presidency as a “miracle” for Argentina, describing the libertarian leader as intelligent and hardworking. He emphasized that Milei’s drive to address decades of economic challenges has been instrumental in his success.
The minister dismissed critics who praise Milei but express concern over his support for Israel and Judaism, arguing that Milei’s moral compass, grounded in Torah values, underpins his effectiveness.
Rabbi Shimon, who served as Milei’s spiritual adviser for approximately five years, described a rabbi’s role as guiding individuals to ask the right questions on their spiritual path. He stressed that strong moral foundations from Jewish tradition and Torah are essential for effective governance and economic policy, urging Milei’s admirers to explore these roots.
Cúneo Libarona also highlighted the ongoing need for vigilance against antisemitism in Argentina, referencing legal actions related to the 1994 Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina bombing. He noted that such cases require continuous attention through laws and education.
The minister called his participation in the conference an honor, citing meetings with senior justice officials from Israel and the United States.
